Gabriella Spitz-Becker graduated from Bard College in 2012 with her bachelor's degree. While a student there, she taught a writing course to students at Eastern Correctional Facility, a maximum security prison in upstate New York. After graduating from Bard, she spent a year teaching in a high school in Newark, New Jersey, where she was the faculty advisor to the very active Gay-Straight Alliance. Gabriella spent a year performing research at the Huntsman Cancer Institute before returning to the east coast to pursue her Phd at The Rockefeller University, where she studied the cell biology of skin.
